Review: 'AEON SPOKE'
'EMMANUEL'

-  Label: 'MERCY STROLL RECORDINGS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'September 2005'

Our Rating:
'Emmanuel' by Miami based band Aeon Spoke should come with an advisory sticker warning listeners not to listen if feeling even slightly cheerful.

This single will make you feel sad and unhappy- like there is no hope left in the world, yet at the same time it's an absolutely beautiful song with evocative lyrics and melodic guitar playing.

Starting off with a gentle guitar tune the single slowly builds up layer upon layer of sound so that by the end of the song you are not only sobbing uncontrollably at the futility of life, but your ears are buzzing (or bleeding, depending how loud you listen to your music) with noise and your mind is echoing with haunting vocal harmonies.

B-side 'Nothing' is just as depressing but with a slightly rockier feel to it- with pounding bass drums and heavy guitar strumming and ends in much echoing and reverb. The band claim to be influenced by death and isolation so it's no surprise that these are the perfect tunes to listen to whilst sitting in the rain watching puppies being drowned, after just having been dumped by your significant other.

Not the most uplifting single ever- but still worth a listen if only for the lovely singing and harmonies.
