Our Rating:
The Last Romance is the 6th studio Album from Scottish duo of Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton. Over the last decade they have developed a distinctive sound of downbeat melodies and and melancholic lyrics. In their latest effort they have come-up with a brilliant, but flawed album.

First track "Stink" kicks off with a lyric "Burn those sheets that we've just fucked in" leaving you with no illusion that you are in for a sordid time on this album. Next track "No Hope For Us" has a great chorus mixed with some noisy guitars. Other highlights include "Speed Date", "There's No Ending" and recent piano driven single, "Dream Sequence" where Aidan Moffat theorises on his partner's sexual dreams!

Problems arise with some of the slower numbers. "Come round and love me" and "Confessions of a Big Brother" seem substandard compared to the rest of the album.

In the end this album is not a complete triumph due to weaker songs letting down the show, but it is still a worthwhile purchase for the standout tracks.
