Review: 'RISING TIMES'
'London, Borderline Club, 26th November 2005'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
Stand or sit? This always seems to be the question when determining the best way to truly enjoy a live gig. The obvious answer: stand as close to the band as possible! But to those who are a bit timid (or just lazy) this might not be the most obvious answer. Thank goodness for the Borderline, a comfortable venue where those who fear the crowds can still sit intimately close to the band while leisurely sipping their drinks.

On my recent visit to The Borderline, my fears were certainly comforted. While perusing the crowd, I noticed that, although some stood while others sat, by the end of the first song, everyone was on their feet… proving that good music (and a few cocktails) is the best way to calm everyone’s nerves.

The last time I watched the Rising Times I could confidently say which songs I was stoked about and those that didn’t quite affect me. But on Saturday night I was caught up in all of them; SS2, Bulletproof Vest, Kaleidoscope, among others. Their music is captivating; so much so that my friend, a virgin RT listener, kept asking me song after song, if I could burn each track for her when we got home.

During the whole gig I was really impressed how not one element of the band stood out more than the other; each member of the group had their moment to shine independently. Usually, rock band performances tend to place most of the emphasis on the lead singer, but in this case, the opposite was true, he even took moments between choruses to crouch down and enjoy his band mates’ music; very refreshing to say the least.
