LUXEMBOURG is not only the name of a tiny European country but also one of an artist, singer and songwriter. It is him that I am now talking about, and his latest single ‘Luxembourg Vs Great Britain’ is a cheesy, fast paced affair with screaming guitars backed by deep, resonating vocals last heard on a ‘best of 80s pop tunes’ tape. There is an air of ‘ironic’ naffness about this tune, and despite all best efforts to the contrary, it’s hard not to sing along with this catchy tune.
B side ‘The Exhibitionist’ is an equally upbeat, tongue in cheek affair and final track ‘About Time’ is a slow and soulful tune which shows off Luxembourg’s voice off to its best. It’s difficult to admit to liking this artist, but like all guilty pleasures once in a while, it’s nice to indulge.
