Review: 'ALKALINE TRIO'
'BURN'

-  Label: 'VAGRANT   '
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '20th February 2006'

Our Rating:
With a track name such as ‘Burn’, and lyrics like “This impending doom is left deep inside…”, and “This Hell is my home…”, you would think that this song would be an angry, vitriolic rant against something apocalyptic, something that threatens our very way of life.

Have a guess what it’s about, go on. Bush’s America? Iraq? The insidious erosion of our civil liberties? Nope, they are merely pissed off with their girlfriends.

ALKALINE TRIO seem typical of the multitudinous rock bands with ‘Ard Boy images who are, in reality, spineless saps whining about how their girlfriends won’t put out. And are we surprised? Nyet.

There are a couple if interesting re-mixes of ‘Burn’ on this single, one of them (Tim Armstrong Mix) is ace, turning the Emo-mush into a bouncy dub-reggae number. By contrast, the 65DaysOfStatic version is a hideous industrial serrated happy-hardcore pile of poo. And the Test-Icicles version is predictably Emo, but with more bleeps.

Good fun, but does this not serve mainly to show how other people can make someone’s (rather mediocre) tune sound different?

By God this is one whinging, moaning track. Alkaline Trio, Rage Against The Machine you ain't, and if you’re not happy with your girlfriends, for Heaven’s sake go out and buy some new ones.
