Review: 'WHIRLWIND HEAT'
'REAGAN (EP)'

-  Label: 'BRILLE'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'April 2006'

Our Rating:
I’ll give you a clue; they’ve managed to get the tracklisting wrong.

Haphazard, carefree and hell bent on originality, WHIRLWIND HEAT make a belated return after blipping the radar three years ago. Whilst album ‘Types of Wood’ highlights both the endearing lo fi genius and rambling banality of the band, the ‘Reagan EP’ is a perfectly pitched snapshot of what they’re all about.

David Swanson’s vocals immediately invoke Beck but quickly dissolve into the carefree drawl of Adam Green as the quirky percussion of ‘Reagan’ stumbles into the monotone irritation of ‘Memory’ and the Moldy Peaches call response of ‘Macho Man’. Three years can be a long time even if you’re bestest buds with Jack White, especially if you don’t practice.
