According to Wikipedia The Brent Flood’s name was coined in 2000 by Duncan Harvey, a Glaswegian DJ acquaintance. It doesn’t say what else they have been called but they are obviously pleased with the name as not only did they keep it but have named their newest EP after themselves.
Made up of five tracks, opener ‘Heavy Petting’ is a nifty piece of work, Jay Marsh’s charismatic and empathetic voice is instantly likeable and leads the song. An effervescent guitar riff takes the edge off what could seem a slightly melancholic song.
Burn strays towards a more despondent tone, but a swaggering sound also gives it an air of cockiness. Lifebelt, goes a little step nearer to being depressing, it has a slower more methodical approach and Marsh’s lyrics hauntingly echo, whilst telling no particular story.

Digging Holes and Beverley, move back into the sunshine, moving away from Radiohead styled influence you can hear the bands cheerier snipets of Feeder, and Jeff Buckley. Interpol is particularly palpable in the final track Beverley.
These 5 tracks are easy listening indie, they are not too adventurous but there is nothing to insult, after 10 years experience maybe this EP will be he one to make people sit up and notice.
