Review: 'AUDIBLES, THE'
'The Rum Diaries EP'

-  Label: 'self-release (www.myspace.com/theaudiblesmusic)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'Now available'

Our Rating:

The follow-up to their November debut (The Absinthe EP) sees Manc. based quartet THE AUDIBLES continue to pay their respects to, ahem, several of the spirits of rock n’ roll with new offering,‘The Rum Diaries’ – surely it’s the second part of a trilogy (or Tryptich – sort of) dedicated to alcohol abuse? Could be…

With BOBBIE PERU’s self styled ‘bastard on bass’, DING, manning the desk controls, the band’s recurrent sound has been set in cement and left to dry with the shards of glass sticking out like jagged edges. The title track is a raw, edgy rock n roller – punk spiced with atonal licks and mindless riffs. There’s a greater sense of abandon despite the tightened end result, and the freer sound shows up as a significant six-month period of artistic development.

‘Enie Jane’ encapsulates the band’s persistent and relentless approach, vocal hook and all – it’s shambolic yet solid, and completely sold on repetition, and boosted by a sudden change of gear that ups the stakes before the third track, ‘Sun Blind’, emerges from the feedback.
