Coming out of Sheffield I was hoping that HELEN BOULDING would add to the excellent songwriters/singers from the Northern city, but I was deceived. Although the theory behind ‘Copenhagen’ has probably got a lot to give, the single itself, in practice, is a little more bland.
Painting by numbers, with a very boring melody and a mediocre voice, Boulding’s music is more foreign than anything we usually define as being born out of Sheffield. To put it bluntly, ‘Copenhagen’ is more of a wannabe rather than a winner. Nothing out of the ordinary, ‘Copenhagen’ can only best be described as a Jewel-like, bland creation, lacking the emotion that is necessary to really grab our attention.
