Taken from their debut album, Ahead of The Rain, The High Wire’s download only single, Easy, is a sign of good things to come. Delicately opening on a shimmering mass of bells, guitar glides and gently lilting lyrics this is melody driven, soft slice of indie pop. Layered vocals and soaring harmonies are the perfect accompaniment to it all. Sounding like Sigor Ros mixed with the less energetic antics of the Polyphonic Spree (and hopefully without the robes) The Highwire have managed to serve up the perfect summer hit, in February.
Following on at just under two minutes B side, Hit Law, has just as gradual an opening. Introduced by strings, the vocal harmonies and melodies build up to a beautiful, hypnotic climax.
The Highwire have managed to create two pretty much perfect slices of string laden pop. Hold on to these and make them the sound of summer 2008.
