Review: 'ACCIDENTAL, THE'
'WOLVES'

Our Rating:
This is what Ian Brown would sound like if he were more soothing. ‘Wolves’ is the debut single from The Accidental, something of a super-group between members of Tunng, The Memory Band and The Bicycle Thieves. Anyone who knows a Tunng song should appreciate this.

To coin a term, it’s acoustic trip-hop. The song is a relaxed take on the Saturday night meat-markets that can be found. “They drink their beer from plastic glasses, until they find the words to make the first move,” is a line that manages to say the same things as Arctic Monkeys, but in a completely original way, which is something bands have been trying to do since ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’ came out.

The song is centred around the analogy that men are like packs of wolves when they’re out on the pull. It trots along at a steady pace and builds in only the subtle ways – the introduction of a violin, the arrival a few computer generated beats. It’s a lullaby, and in great contrast to the lyrics being cooed. It’s a great song – a relaxing way to berate the morons. Ace.
