Review: 'CESS ALLAN BAND, THE'
'History Books'

-  Label: 'self-release (www.myspace.com/thecessallanband)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'January 2009'

Our Rating:
The Cess Allan band is mainly the work of one Nick Read, along with a few friends. History Books is his first proper EP release.

The music on offer is acoustic folk-influenced indie, with a couple of flashes of "rock" bolstering the sound here and there. The obvious reference points are Frank Turner, Get Cape... and Chris T-T, which is no bad thing at all.

It is early days for Read but this is pleasant enough, and shows promise for the future. The acoustic material is good in its own right, but the more "rock" parts seem to be stifled before they are allowed to go anywhere. This is a shame, as they would give the songs more "texture".

Worth investigating.
