When John Martyn died, I reminisced with some friends about going to see him on tour in 1994. I remembered his support act was a young man called Jay Fisher, so I googled him and was pleased to see that Jay Fisher is still recording and goes by the name Apple Rabbits. As Jay Fisher he recorded with Mike Howlett's (Gong) mauve record label in 1994, before going on to collaborate with Paul Castle and Dug Wolfsohn as Canteen. Further collaborations included vocalist on Eight stories with Dave Randall (of Faithless and Slovo)and an unreleased album with Jazz singer Kate Dimberlby. Phew!
Jay Fisher describes apple rabbits as “the English Kitchen sink version of music, beautiful and ugly, glamorous and ordinary. The ugly is beautiful and the beautiful is ugly.”

I loved King of Anglia from my first listen. The Album is full of great songs and beautiful vocals, from the Post-punk dub wonderful weirdness of " wrong again" (First single) the anthemic " Sing to Me" ( second single) through to the beautiful sadness of "Run it Down" and ending on the choral experimental track "Go to Sleep". Interesting arrangements combined with a sublime blend of electronic and traditional instruments make this a must for any album collection.
