Review: 'Awesome Wells and Friends'
'EP'

-  Label: 'Red Deer Club'
-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
The amusingly-named Awesome Wells - not forgetting his Friends - generously give us this free downloadable EP courtesy of Red Dear Club, of Manchester.

Musically, they're a lot less comedic than their moniker, instead delivering a laid-back and slightly quaint harmonious sound. 'BEARS' is a strange tale of thorns, and is anything but grizzly, heralded by the sound of wood pigeons leading into cool vocal melodies layered over a piano line augmented with brass.

The 38-second 'Untitled #1' brings us a brass and ukulele-led skiffle-edged sound of yesteryear that's both pleasant and nostalgic, a feel that's continued in 'You're Flogging a Dead One, Jon.'

Mandolins and brass provide the instrumentation to closer 'The Big "O"' which builds to quite a fanfare before the fade.

I can't think of another band that sound quite like Awesome Wells anf Friends, and this EP is eminently listenable.
