Review: 'VIOLENT DELIGHT'
'ALL YOU EVER DO'

-  Label: 'WEA RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '26/5/03'-  Catalogue No: 'WEA 367CDDJ'

Our Rating:
St.Albans' pop-metallers VIOLENT DELIGHT initially caught W&H's attention with their peurile, but punky "Same Old Story". However, the recent "I Wish I Was A Girl" (a chart hit at #25 - like, what do I know, anyway?) sounded like one Farley's rusk too many to these ears.

"All You Ever Do" does little to dispel the hollow feeling, either. OK, it's youthful, riffy, shouty and at least a little less immature lyrically. Well, at least there's less gratuitous swearing, though maybe that was the best part? Actually, compared with "I Wish I Was A Girl" this is almost Betjemen, so I guess it's a step in the right direction.

Trouble is, it's all very lowest common denominator. It's well-drilled, powerful stuff and will no doubt sound fine in a moshpit surrounded by like (blown) minded folk caring about little more than jostling for elbow room, but at home it comes pummelling out of the speakers full of raging testosterone and ends up sounding like The Offspring - without any of the fun.

And that's about it, really. Next...
