This Austin based band's first album, Work And Sleep (2005), was described as a "noisy, brassy affair" . The line-up has changed radically since then and singer-songwriter Claire Hamilton has this time teamed up with multi-instrumentalist Gary Newcomb (pedal steel, guitar, Casio, melodica, bass, percussion) to produce a quiet, Slowcore sound they describe as "headphone worthy".
On track 5 - 'Coloured Glass' - Hamilton sings of "Drinking tea to stay awake" but by then it was apparent to me that I would need something stronger than that if I was going to make it through the remaining 7 songs.
Words are stretched out, as with "trans - end - ent - al - glo -ry" on the title song, and I was left wondering if Hamilton wanted to sound sultry or else was trying to imitate the intimacy of some late night blues diva. Either way it didn't work for me.

Only 'Why Don't You Come Over' sounds more bushy tailed (as well as being a dead ringer for the Pretenders).
Rather than putting me in a chilled mood this record just left me feeling tired and impatient to hear some loud, high energy music.
