In recent weeks, it seems that 'epic' has become the latest buzzword. Before long, it will likely be as overused - and thus as meaningless and damned annoying - as the ubiquitous and ludicrously misused 'iconic.' This is a shame, as it's a word that I rather like, and a word I've been using (in the correct context) for years. Further proof, were it required, that I'm almost always ahead of the game - something I rarely, if ever, receive credit for.
Anyway, the point is this: when I say that The Kissaway Trail's latest single is 'epic,' I mean it (man). It's epic in duration, with a running time of over six minutes. This sadly means it's unlikely to receive much mainstream radio airplay, but that's cool. I applaud the Danish quintet's shunning of commercial considerations in order to preserve their vision.

The production, courtesy of Peter Katis (Interpol, The National, The Twilight Sad), is similarly bold - little short of massive, in fact - and entirely appropriate for a song that is built upon a grand, sweeping, chiming rising wave of sweeping guitars, bells and rolling drums, and is the sonic equivalent of standing atop a mountain and surveying a grand vista spreading across the full 360-degree panorama. Truly uplifting.
