Review: 'CRACATILLA'
'YOU'VE GOT IT ALL/ EVERYMAN'

-  Label: 'INDUSTRY OF COOL'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '9/6/03'-  Catalogue No: 'IOCCD 001'

Our Rating:
There's a kind of odd, reverse logic to any band who watch a programme about the volcano Krakatoa and mishear it, calling themselves CRACATILLA as a result.

In terms of great eruptions, though, "You've Got It All" doesn't really proffer anything involving molten lava, but it finds this Liverpudlian trio acquitting themselves well enough with their wistful, harmony-laden pop.

"You've Got It All" does wrongfoot you, coming on all sub-Coldplay, before bringing on a huge, sloganeering chorus executed with massive confidence. As if from nowhere, James Lewis, Dave Penswick and Louis Fitzpatrick show us they have a penchant for great three-way harmonies that can never be denied.

The second offering, "Everyman", is an altogether slower number but still retains the relaxed feel of the title track. It's not as immediate, but is by no means unpleasant either, being lifted by a nifty guitar break at one point.

Two singles in, CRACATILLA are not to be written off, but are hardly sounding like world-beaters either. They'll need to do more to truly stand out from the crowd.
