Review: 'Adam Parker'
'Smart Man'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '10th May 2010'

Our Rating:
Is Adam Parker a smart man? Well, from some of his publicity photos, he certainly looks quite dapper. However, while I appreciate that image is important in the music world (I'm reluctant to use the word 'industry' these days), substance still counts for more than style unless you're going for the MTV / Radio 1 crowd.

In this, his debut self-released download-only single (the perfect illustration of why I prefer not to call it the music industry), Parker shows he's got plenty of substance. My first reaction is that the guitar line takes its inspiration from Blur's 'Coffee and TV,' but this is no pale imitation of the Britpop combo's output. Instead, singer / songwriter Parker presents a well-crafted, if slightly bleak commentary on the state of things and the need for action ('I've had my fill / I don't need your words of hate in my mind,' he sings).

It's a simple, but effective composition, and a very promising start. Smart indeed.
