Review: 'AMARI'
'Poweri'

-  Label: 'Riotmaker'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Catalogue No: 'RM030'

Our Rating:
Poweri is the UK release on their own label of this Italian group's 7th Album.

Amari (which means 'bitter' in Italian) formed in 1996 as a duo of Dariella and Pasta but are now a five piece with an extended electro-hip hop meets pop sound.

In 2000 they won the Summer pop Arezzo Wave Competition, but here they turn their sights on a European market. They use English as the lingua franca for their brand of unoriginal commercial pop complete with the requisite banalities like "We are tourists in the sun" sung in a Euro American accent.

Only one song (Preservativi Ovunque ) is in their native language. Your Kisses ("Your kisses taste like future") is the key track of the album and features in three different versions.

Any individual identity they may possess is lost in the Eurofication of their sound. With sun, sea, sex and vodka as recurring topics, the songs could be a soundtrack to an 18-30 package holiday.

This is efficient yet unspectacular pop that tries to sound superficially sleazy without alienating a prospective MTV fan base.
