It starts off so promisingly, but after the unexpected Strokes meets Sigue Sigue Sputnik meets Electric Six electro-punk garage of the lead track, thing deteriorate rapidly toward the precise opposite of a climax.
'Guilty Filthy Soul' and 'Sail' both provide different slants on the blueprint set on 'ËœBurn It Down': that is to say, space-age electro with a garage sensibility and approach to production, with vocals that are raw, distorted and clanging with treble. The former is a rather uncomfortable-sounding stab at anthemic pop, while the latter is plain awkward, but is at least different enough to be interesting.
'MF' thinks it's the Beastie Boys, while incorporating some really weak 90s digital pop, it's appalling. The Innerpartysystem Remix of 'Burn It Down' is plain shocking. It thinks it's the Age of Chance, but it's more a collision of every shit 90s boyband trying to do 'edgy'.
Still, their website is pretty cool, and the EP's available as a free download, so you can judge for yourself: http://www.awolnationmusic.com/
