One of the things I always try to do when writing a review is be objective. And when I can't be objective, I at least try to justify my position. Another thing I always try to do is give some kind of indication of what a record sounds like, what it 'does.' The purple prose favoured by some music journos, in which details are replaced by frothy, mellifluous similes and stretched-out metaphors doesn't help a reader to develop an idea of whether or not they might actually want to hear the music in question.
I'm chucking all of that out of the window here. Ok, so 'This Amazing' has a kind of gothic surf rock feel, reminiscent of the brilliant but massively underrated band The Volcanoes, but it's way more than that. It's groovy in a slinky, swaggering sort of a way, and above all, it's cool and crackles with electricity and a sexual energy, while at the same time radiating a cool, hip-swaying, knowing nonchalance. It's exciting, and put simply, it's bloody brilliant.

Flipside (yes, it's actually getting a vinyl release) 'Daddy Smokes a Cigarette' might lack the immediacy and dynamism of the lead track, but has a laid-back loucheness that's hard to resist, and I dig it immensely. And that's all you need to know.
