Josh Bray from Dorset grew up on grunge and classic rock then had a kind of epiphany when hearing Nick Drake's River Man for the first time.
On this 4 track digital only EP, the first two songs -The River Song and Bigger Than The Both Of Us - show the obvious influence of Drake.
Gentle acoustic melodies and Bray's soft, lilting vocals are backed by gentle brushed percussion and string arrangements.
Living Free has a more electric arrangement, more reminiscent of John Martyn or Jeff Buckley.

These three tracks will form part of a debut album (also to be called Whisky & Wool) due out in March 2011.
The extra tune is a fairly straight cover of Led Zeppelin's That's The Way, recorded live in the studio.
Bray may not be an original but this highly promising debut shows he has the voice and potential to go far.
