Review: 'ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS'
'SWING, SWING'

-  Label: 'DOGHOUSE/DREAMWORKS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '21/7/03'-  Catalogue No: 'SWING 1'

Our Rating:
Well, we can't simply refer to them as "The Rejects", can we? I mean, heaven forbid we'd get them confused with,er, mighty Oi-sters The Cockney Rejects, so there's no room for abbreviations in this case, right?

But then, the ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS sound like a band worth making the effort to go the full distance with, at least on the basis of this slice of broody, tuneful punkerama, beefed-up with the kind of elementally twangy bassline factor that can't fail round these parts.

Actually, "Swing, Swing" isn't entirely unrelated to the dreaded 'Emo-core' people that your reviewer is usually to be found being derisory about in these pages, but these Oklahoma boys seem to have a way with revved-up angst that gets to the point without the snivelly irritation factor that usually blights the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Rival Schools, Less Than Jake et al in my eyes. Besides, who in their right mind could deny that cool intro with the churchy organ breaking into that staccato riff and the way the whole band burst in? Neat, or what.

I probably shouldn't get too hot under the collar until we check the album out in detail, but for now, this no-nonsense slice of smouldering urban frat-boy angst will do very nicely, thanks.
