Review: 'Aged Yummy'
'Let’s Connect Dots'

-  Label: 'Run of the Mill'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15th November 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'RUN15CD'

Our Rating:
It's hard to define, but there is, without doubt, a distinctive sound that typifies many bands from the North of England, specifically in and around Yorkshire. Perhaps it's the sense of separation, of not 'belonging' to the London-centric scene that inspires a desire to create music that’s stubbornly anti-fashion. Perhaps it's because it really is grim up North.

Whatever, Aged Yummy, who hail from Huddersfield, describe themselves as 'Surf Math.' Quite how much of a gimmick the tag's supposed to be is hard to say, although their debut single does incorporate elements of both, with tightly wound, looping guitar motifs wrapped around loping rhythms, pinned together with a chugging bass. The result is a jubilant, lo-fi post-punk indie art-rock number that's short and to the point, and really rather catchy.

Quintessentially Northern it may be, but it's anything but grim.
