Review: 'Crazy Arm'
'Ambertown / Sweet Storm'

-  Label: 'Xtra Mile Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '13th December 2010'

Our Rating:
In the Autumn of 2010, Crazy Arm toured with Against Me! and Fucked Up. The Devonshire quartet's brand of 'hard-twang, roots-punk' sits pretty well with the rabble-rousing punkiness. To round off the year, they presented two new songs that weren't on there debut album, 'Born to Ruin' as a download, which will be out as a 7" in the spring. It’s fair to say that the two songs in question - 'Ambertown' and 'Sweet Storm' - show two very different sides of the band.

'Ambertown' is, as one might expect, an uptempo folk-punk thrashalong stomp with sociopolitical overtones that sits somewhere between Springsteen and MSP. It's the sound of a band with something to say and fire in their bellies. 'Sweet Storm' ditches the electric guitars for a bluegrass-inspired, harmony-led number that's ok, if rather standard. Nothing wrong with it per se, but it's unlikely to win them any new fans.
