Review: 'CONCHITAS'
'HOUSE ON FIRE'

-  Label: 'Delicious Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'December 2010'

Our Rating:
‘House On Fire’ is the second single release from Conchitas, the electro-rock outfit from East London. The band is a duo, comprising of lead singer ‘El’ and lead guitarist Ed Sonsino. ‘El’s gravelly husky voice suits the single well and Ed’s guitar, which overlays an electro-beat is also good.

The single comprises of four versions of the same song. ‘House On Fire’ – Radio Edit starts it off, with some good sounds, and ‘El’ wraps her slightly sleazy vocals round the tune, sometimes breathy and seductive, sometimes dripping with desire.

However, the main problem is the similarity to Kings Of Leon’s ‘Sex On Fire, this being something of a rewrite and sharing the same song sequences. The same is true of the ‘Ed’ Boombox Mix’ which is primarily instrumental apart from the chorus. The ‘Power Trip Edit’ is slightly better with it’s Fade in/fade out of “Honey, honey, honey” and “Desire, desire, desire”, but still, comparisons can be immediately drawn.

The ‘Om Shanti Mix’ is different with tablas and an Eastern feel to it, but with four separate mixes of the same single, it comes too late. Don’t get me wrong on this, the single itself is quite good, and one that should pack dance floors, but I would have liked to hear a bit of variety. Their debut album ‘Love Hurts’ is due for release soon. Hopefully this will redress the situation.
