Our Rating:
'Like masturbating to tetris' was one great description I came across for one of the of next generation electronica albums.

You know what this person was getting at when you hear the manic energy of an album like Void () by Access To Araska (AtA) which is dramatically billed as "dark sonic futurism".

AtA is the chosen pseudonym of Rob Lioy, a producer from Rochester in NY State. In case you didn't know it (and I didn't!) Arasaka is a Japanese megacorporation in the world of the role playing Cyberpunk 2020. This fact is significant only insofar that it confirms that Lioy spends the major part of his waking hours hooked into his PC in one form or another.

Further proof of this comes from the Javascript derived language of the titles which serve as a kind of private code for tech-savvy listeners, take for example: '&sin' , 'bpf_u_plkthdr.len' '[overwrite_ctr]' and 'config.syn_seq'.

Void ( ) is the follow up to Oppidan released in 2009. Its sixteen, relatively short, tracks showcase complex computer generated patterns with a real sense of vitality.

The meticulously crafted pieces often come layered with a kind of laptop reverb and all this focus on random precision creates the sensation of being lost in a space-age city after dark. At times it sounds like a mutated strain of dubstep.

Above all, it is not cold or soulless so you don't have to be a computer nerd to appreciate it. As a soundtrack to a day in the life of Cyberpsace, it is hard to beat.
