Reminiscent of 'Republic' era New Order, complete with a strolling bassline Peter Hook himself could have written and the vocal melody nabbed wholesale from Joy Division's 'Atmosphere', in turn coupled with the kind of breezy poppiness The Jesus and Mary Chain proved themselves capable of on 'Automatic' (it's the punchy drum sound that does it), and the synth line from OMD's 'Enola Gay' it's all too easy to become engrossed in a game of 'spot the influence' and to forget to listen to the song itself.
Taken at face value, 'The Body' is breezy and bright and if the uptempo mechanised drumming propels it at some pace, then the wash of synths equally ensure that it floats and soars and drifts from the speakers like a contrail streaked across the azure on a clear summer's day. A very passable piece of pop.
