Review: 'earthtone9'
'For Cause and Consequence EP'

-  Label: 'Self-release'
-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: 'Out now'

Our Rating:
Ten years is a long time in music - fads come and go; bandwagons get jumped on and off; flavour-of-the-month bands appear then thankfully disappear. The good thing is that generally, the quality bands remain even if, as in the case of earthtone9, they have not released anything for a decade.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, earthtone9 are back and sounding as great as ever.

This 4-track EP will satisfy original fans of the band (including this reviewer) but should also win them many new followers. It is 4-tracks of inventive metal, accessible yet challenging.

Opening track "Tide of Ambition" does not mess about, starting with a fast, driving riff and drums like thunder. Karl Middleton's distinctive screaming/singing (he can really sing) has never sounded better.

"Ghosts" is slower and more brooding, while "The Trail That We Carved Out" has an almighty chorus. Final track "Reborn" is excellent as well, possibly the closest thing to a "pop' song et9 will write, but at the same time pleasingly meaty.

This is the sound of a band with some unfinished business and hopefully this time, the world is ready for et9. Time for a full album and some extensive touring, guys...
