Review: 'Kickliner, The'
'EP'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'September 2011'

Our Rating:
When I saw the name of the band, I assumed it would be the same Kickliner whose EP I reviewed late last year, and sure enough, I was right. The Kickliner appear to have relocated from Derby to Sheffield, and have enlisted Alan Smyth, whose previous credits include Arctic Monkeys, Pulp and 65daysofstatic to handle the production of their new EP. While they by no means sound like a simple amalgamation of the aforementioned bands, there's a discernible dash of each of them in the blend. They sound like a Sheffield band, and I mean that by no means disparagingly.

The four tracks here reveal Kickliner to have developed their sound and to have firmed up their position as purveyors of savvy indie that jangles a little, but has a robustness, a solidity about it that suggests jeans 'n' t-shirts rather than cardigans and is anything but fay or wet. In fact, it’s really rather good.
