Review: 'Black Casino & The Ghost'
'Falling Into Pieces'

-  Genre: 'Pop'

Our Rating:
Alternative pop is a fun genre, but Black Casino & The Ghost make it furiously fun. London bred Zoot (vocals/piano), Ariel (guitar) and Andy (drums) formed their band through a mutual obsession with the cathartic wonders of music. Their songs are about ‘isolation, disorientation, lust, and how to fly a plane through turbulence without spilling your coffee’.

It seems the formation of Black Casino & The Ghost was an organic process ever since they met while working in recording studios in and around London. With an uncontrollable list of influences, ranging from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to horror films and Clint Eastwood the band play with one purpose. To make others feel good. All enraptured by the power of music they aim to unite, delight, tickle, caress, noogy, and free their listeners. Inspiration is their goal and they’re more than capable of delivering.

This release represents a very passionate and dynamic show. ‘Falling into pieces’ describes a self therapeutic ballad with a kick for Zoot, while the rest of the ep demonstrates a pseudo-cinematic, orchestral character, emotionally anarchic, high on whiskey and a bit horny too.

Their video for the leading single is equally rambunctious. Directed by Chris Shepherd it is a striking photomontage against pastel shades. The cut out imagery gives a sharp edge of serious coolness.
