Review: 'ATLANTIC DRIVE'
'The Up Side'

-  Label: 'Self-released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '11th November 2011'

Our Rating:
That this band were only formed in January of this year and already have a CD out is impressive, but having read the band's press release that claims that this Newcastle based band (with a drummer Dan Whitzer imported from Philadelphia) called their debut release 'The Up Sid'e as they can find the up side in any situation if you look hard enough for it almost made me expect to hear songs about the upside of paedophilic gang rape or the Rwandan genocide, which would have been a lot more interesting than the 4 songs on this EP.

The opener Moving Forward has far to many "dah de dahs" for my liking and while the singer in places sounds like Gary from Reef there is no passion there and as he sings "I Don't care" over and over towards the end of the song he has summed up my thoughts entirely.

When Fool In Love had some nice harmony backing vocals near its start I was hoping the rest of the song would be drenched in them, no such luck as that would have been a touch too edgy for this lot who sound a lot like they want to be on the Hillsong channel or singing at a Christian music festival, they may not state as much but they have happy clappy writ large over the EP.

Day by Day totally passed me by on both listens to it, and Another Time gets really annoying as the singer bleats and pleads and begs in his worst moaning voice about how he lost his way. I just wished he'd lost his way to the vocal booth. I would only recommend this to people who think that James Morrison is dangerous!!
