‘Never Come Back’ is the first single release from HYDE & BEAST, the duo formed by David Hyde, the drummer from the Futureheads, and Neil Bassett, ex Golden Virgins drummer. I must say that this confounded all my expectations of what would be likely to happen when two drummers get in the studio together.
‘Never Come Back’ is a refreshing slice of pure pop that seems almost rooted in the early 1970s, starting with a piano riff that wouldn’t seem out of place on Bowie’s ‘Hunky Dory’ album, and boasting some glam style fuzzy guitar, what really made it for me was the trumpet on the chorus.

There are some excellent vocal harmonies on here, and whilst I can’t always understand what they’re on about, this is certainly well worth more than just a listen.
