Review: 'Alphabet Backwards'
'British Explorer EP'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '28th November 2011'

Our Rating:
Alphabet Backwards may have already enjoyed radio support from Tom Robinson, Bob Harris Huw Stephens, Cerys Matthews and Steve Lamacq, but their brand of guitar pop isn’t going to pull me into the ranks of those singing their praises. The three tracks here are examples of harmony-filled emo-ish US indie: limp-wristed, wet, and really very ordinary.

Lead track ‘Taller’ is, in the words of front-man James Hitchman ‘about seeing an ex-girlfriend on the street with her new boyfriend, feeling belittled about it and wondering if she still misses you, prefers you to the new boyfriend and wants you back’. Take it from me, mate, she doesn’t.
