I really had though that overblown, overwrought post-Zeppelin rawwwwwwwk!! died in the early 90s, but then I happened to catch a few minutes of Karrang! TV recently. It was grim. It was as though grunge never happened. Always the Quiet Ones may cite Biffy Clyro and Tool as reference points, but on the first track on this EP, ‘Sign of the Times’, they come on more like Guns n’ Roses.
The other to tracks, ‘Valentina’ and ‘Freak Show’ are rather better (in fairness, that’s not difficult) and also justify the alignment with the aforementioned bands, plus Deftones and A Perfect Circle, although despite a nicely-worked mid-section in ‘Valentina’, Oceansize is pushing a bit.
