Dissonant horns and drones cry out into the wilderness against a backdrop of crackling thunder on the fittingly-titled opener ‘Advance Warning’. As the album progresses, the tracks merge into one another, and ominous shades heavy with foreboding resonate.
Distant spirits trapped in purgatory wail from behind the asylum walls on ‘Infernal Council’ before ‘Aesthetics of Imperfection’ are blown away with a slow destination on the horizon. Once the dust clears, there is silence, before slow drones and painful scrapes rise again against a billowing thermal wind and whispering voices that builds to an atomic maelstrom.
It’s heavy duty stuff and there’s no light relief here, but the claustrophobically dark atmospherics make for compelling listening.
