Review: 'Lightships'
'Sweetness in Her Spark'

-  Label: 'Geographic Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '26th March 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'GEOG36'

Our Rating:
Lightships is the new band assembled by Teenage Fanclub bassist Gerard Love, and the debut album ‘Electric Cables’ features – perhaps not entirely surprisingly – members of Teenage Fanclub and The Pastels.

‘Sweetness in Her Spark’ the band’s debut single release ahead of the long-player, and it’s a light and slightly fluffy piece of indie dream pop. The jangliness is smoothed out with a light shoegaze swirl. It’s pleasant and soothing in a wistful, melodic sort of way, and fey indie kids and older music fans yearning for the good old days will no doubt fawn over the sweet stylings. It’s more dappled shade than full summer sun, and ultimately, for my money, it’s just a little too wet to really cut the mustard.
