Review: 'MayMay'
'MayMay EP'

-  Label: 'Flau'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '16th April 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'FLAU24'

Our Rating:
MayMay is Laurel Simmons, and her songwriting revolves around her friends and family. The result is a set of five delicate, intimate and emotionally tender songs built around voice and acoustic guitar. There are occasional chimes and strings, but really, it’s about the simplest formula being done well.

While Loch Lomond and Heather Woods Broadrick (who also contributed to this recording) may be the kind of references MayMay’s music calls to mind, there’s something reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel about the way the melodies are set and the harmonies woven. Elegant and graceful, it’s not about high drama, but poise and sincerity.
