'We’re in this Together (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '11th June 2012'

Our Rating:
Woah, wait, back up. What was that line again? ‘If this is a one-way street then I’m driving back to you’. Really? Yep. That’s the opening line of ‘We Stand Tall’, the first track on this EP from Liverpudlian quartet Broken Lungs. ‘But the streetlights hurt my eyes so I close them till I see you,’ the dude continues pathetically in his weedy, poppy indie voice. Christ, I’d not want to be in the passenger seat with this guy at the wheel. Apart from having no sense of direction and driving with his eyes closed, he sounds like he’d bust out crying if the traffic light turned red or he stalled his powder pink Mini.

They promise ‘uptempo rock’ akin to Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters and Manchester Orchestra. Is this seriously what passes for rock these days? Still, it’s better than the bulk of the other four tracks on here, which are given to sensitive acoustic lovelorn moping about how far away his girlfriend is and all that feeble stuff no-one cares about.

These guys sound like they’ve taken most of their cues from 30 Seconds to Mars, down to the stadium-sized chorus vocals, in particular on the aforementioned fist-in the air anthem ‘We Stand Tall’. I want to send Mr T after them and have him shake the lot of them and tell them to get some nuts, or better still, do it myself. Oh, yeah, I just did.
