Yeah, so here’s a surprise - a band of guitar-toting youths who reckon they’re bringing a fresh take on the ‘currently over-saturated punk-pop genre’ while citing Blink 182, Foo Fighters and Alexisonfire as the inspirations behind their brand of melodic punk. Listen, if it’s melodic it ain’t punk, and similarly, if your band’s from Guildford in Surrey, you’ll forgive me for not being convinced by the importance of your angst.
In fairness, ‘Making Shadows’ is mastered nice and loud and the guitars are punchy, but there’s not a lot else to recommend it. What you get is four tracks – in short, a standard EP’s worth – of melodic contemporary rock with big choruses dripping the most predictable by-numbers, off-the-shelf teen angst. Everything about it is completely average. There really isn’t a lot more to add.
