It’s a sorry state of affairs when so many aspiring female-fronted rock bands reckon Paramore are a band worth taking notes from. And yet they do, and Leeds rockers Chasing Dragons are the latest to emerge brandishing a fistful of ideas nicked from their parents’ collection of hair rock picture discs.
In the case of Chasing Dragons, it’s a meagre handful at that. Their debut long player only contains six original tracks, padded out to album length with ‘live acoustic’ versions of two of the tracks, and a cover version.
The cover in question is ‘Black Velvet’. Sure it’s well done – so well done in fact that were it not for the slightly muddy guitar sound, it could be the original, which begs the question, what’s the point? Actually, the point is that it gives a fair indication of the band’s style; old-school rock, the sound of vests and denim jackets , ripped jeans and zebra-print spandex (and that’s one of the guys).

Then there are the song titles:’Into the Pit’; ‘Seeds of Tomorrow’; ‘Under the Earth’; ‘Spawn of the Succubus’. Nuff said, really.
