Review: 'Where The Skeletons Play'
'Generation Wars (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '27th August 2012'

Our Rating:
With three tracks extending beyond the six minute mark, it’s evident Where the Skeletons Play, with their cumbersome moniker and equally un-snappy song titles, aren’t going for the pop market. Instead, they forge colossal epic works that bring together elements of post-rock and metal to create a powerful and innovative hybrid.

‘When the World Was Black and White’ burns an anthemic chorus reminiscent of Placebo, only slowed down, cranked up and maxed out., and ‘Never Born a Criminal’ melds the edgy tension of NIN – particularly in the vocals - with the expansive progressive post-metal of Pelican to stunning effect.

The three epics (the other being the layered, crescendo-driven ‘At Your Epicentre’) are bookended by shorter pieces. The hauntingly atmospheric ‘Ghosts on the Frontline’, with a sparse piano motif chiming against an ethereal backdrop, and closer ‘41526-004’ tie up a release that’s ambitious and accomplished in equal measure.
