Review: 'Minamo'
'Documental'

-  Album: 'Documental' -  Label: 'ROOM40'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: 'RM443'

Our Rating:
If the name of this Tokyo quartet suggests minimalism, then you’re on the right track. The five compositions on ‘Documental’ are sparse in the extreme, yet atmospheric and tonally intricate.

A faint whistle of feedback runs a subtle trail through warm chimes and delicate oriental motifs on ‘Draw the Line’, before tapering tones roll and glide across the listener’s senses on ‘Bound Letters’. Sketches and scenes evolve and transition seamlessly through the sonic library Minamo construct on ‘Documental’, from the atmospherics of ‘Dusted Shelf’ to the closing tones of ‘Paperweight’.

Exploratory yet balanced, sparse yet rich and considered, ‘Documental’ is an interesting and fresh-sounding example of minimalist composition.
