Review: 'Adventures of B. Violet'
'Violets and Violence EP'

-  Label: 'www.bviolet.com'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'SEPTEMBER 2003'

Our Rating:
As with "Lara Croft; The Cradle of Life" and "Pirates of the Caribbean; "The Curse of the Black Pearl", the title "The
Adventures of B. Violet; Violets and Violence EP" initially only suggests one thing.A sequel. Fortunately B VIOLET is a purveyor of fully formed upbeat ironic pop with a fair amount in common with the long lamented Dubstar (God Save Us, is Sophie Ellis Bextor really the best we can do? and a sequel can only be a Good Thing.

B. Violet's primary concern is apparently 'the creation of lyrical concepts which convey the most brutally honest, humorous, wistfully hopeless parts of the human character'. The eternal truths of the human condition in three 3 minute power pop nuggets might seem like a tough remit, but you've got to admire the band's ambition.

Admittedly the EP has weaknesses, B. Violet sometimes verges on squeaky despite some slick layered vocals and bubblegum harmonies, but the group plays to their strengths forging something catchy, accessible, cerebral and frankly in the current indie retro guitars climate, different.

So put down Shakespeare and pick up a copy of the "Violets and Violence EP." Available via www.bviolet.com.
