Review: 'PARASTATIC'
'LOST HIGHWAY'

-  Label: '104 RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15th October 2012'

Our Rating:
Any mention of Loop is guaranteed to bring a nostalgic tear to this eye (the one on the left) and raise my interest. PARASTATIC have a lot less fuzz than Robert and his band of merry men but still plenty of loop.

Loop come to the fore on second track GlaxoChem but not before Like A Fraud has roped us in with a knocking guitar melody and a big riff. The vocals are very different to Robert's, in fact they are more akin to modern day indie. Well spoken and uplifting. This, of course, is no bad thing because if they sounded more like Loop I would be well pissed off!

GlaxoChem rides a chemical wave. Where’s Your Base? The keyboard seems like a good addition to their set up. It seems to enable them to take things in different directions even when it’s not on a track like Base (or much anyway). This track goes in a Spiritualised direction. Minimum Change Maximum Time is the motorik mantra that underpins this album. Lost has a decidedly eighties feel in a Sisters Of Mercy, This Corrosion-era kind of way.
Breaking Me Down is my least favourite track. The vocals and music don’t quite gel and it doesn’t really go anywhere. Darma is the single out now. It starts like The Cult and them attempts dark and cavernous. I imagine it as a live favourite. Overall I would say this is a good first album but the production could do with more life in it. The album is available on white vinyl. Go to their website for live gigs and check them out.
