I might not be a big fan of cleanly produced pop with overt chart potential, but I am a sucker for a beefy drum and low-slung bass. Add to that a chunky, reverby guitar and colossal chorus and suddenly ‘Catalyst’ has a lot going for it – although it’s the choral bridge that really does it.
In the case of Alex Kelly, looks are deceiving. She may look like some pop diva, but ‘Catalyst’ is a rock tune. Yes, it has an accessibility that gives it mass appeal, but it’s taut, edgy and packs a punch. Chances are it could really make things happen, and fast, for Alex Kelly.
