Review: 'Circle of Reason'
'A Favour for a Stranger (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '3rd December 2012'

Our Rating:
The core riff on ‘Chasing the Sun’ sounds like a metal version of Carter USM’s ‘Sheriff Fatman’. In a way, it’s sort of fitting, not because Circle of Reason are a cheesy indie duo, but because their sound harks back to the alternative rock of the 90s (think Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, Soundgarden) more than it corresponds with the contemporary rock sound.

Big guitars provide a full-blooded backdrop to a clean, melodic vocal style. We’re not talking about melodic vocals contrasted with guttural screaming, either: this is proper singing. The result is a sound that’s accessible but still weighty, and with tunes to boot. It’s a refreshing change, and I dig it.
