Review: 'Carnival Kids, The'
'The Carnival Kids'

-  Album: 'The Carnival Kids' -  Label: 'Musik & Film'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '1st April 2013'

Our Rating:
Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Adam Cominello is the brains behind The Carnival Kids. He apparently formed the band with the goal of making music that could boldly defy any single genre while still maintaining a feeling of familiarity.

He certainly succeeds with the latter part of that mission statement, if not so much the former. There may be elements of indie, country and Americana in the mix, but The Carnival Kids’ sound is very much representative of the kind of easy-going rock that could have been released any time from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. For the most part bland but on occasion seriously irritating in its use of bouncy basslines and springy synths. Specific comparisons are essentially futile as we’re in such broadly generic territory here.

Completing the MOR-by-numbers methodology with off-the peg lyrical wisdom such as ‘Only you can change yourself’ (‘Daily Miracle’), the whole experience is all rather Coldplay.
