Described in the press release as ‘ragtag post-punkers’, the North-Eastern quintet have been compared to a curious range of artists by previous reviewers, with Captain Beefheart, Fugazi and XTC all being bandied about.
This EP grabs the listener by the throat as well as the ears from the get-go, as ‘Deek It’ roars in with a grumbling bass and tripwire guitar beneath vocals that are equally urgent and melodic. The melody gives way to wild-eyed desperation and discord on the fractured ‘Attention Deficit’ and there’s a skewed pop slant to the warping guitars of ‘Surgical’. Theirs is an eclectic approach: ‘Pink’ is a gentle and spacious post-rock instrumental. What brings everything together is a knack for creating songs that are exciting and unpredictable.
